Abstract:

Professional photographs documenting various actions of the Delano grape strike (1965-1970). Demonstrations depicted likely include the 1966 march from Delano to Sacramento jointly organized by the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee and the National Farm Workers of America, who would later unify into the United Farm Workers (UFW) labor union; and the 1969 Coachella Valley march organized by the UFW. Scenes depict farm workers and other demonstrators during the marches; speeches by various participants; and musical performances. While major leaders of the effort are not the focus of the collection, identified individuals include Senator Walter Mondale and civil rights activist Ralph Abernathy.
